Ausseer Radweg

Starting place: 8984 Bad Mitterndorf
Destination: 8992 Altaussee

A cycle tour through one of the most beautiful regions in the Alps, the Ausseerland. Past Grundlsee and Altausseer See, this sporty cycle route leaves nothing to be desired. Scenic highlights are the Grundlsee, the Altausseer See and the wonderful view towards the Dachstein in Obertressen.

The tour starts at the railroad junction in Pichl-Kainisch and branches off from the well-known Salzkammergut cycle path >R19<. Over the Radling Pass we head towards Grundlsee, the largest bathing lake in Styria. The descent from Radling to Grundlsee is certainly one of the highlights of this cycle route.

In Grundlsee, we take a sharp left before the Seehotel and cycle via Obertressen to Altaussee. Before that, there are magnificent views of the Dachstein from a wayside shrine at the side of the road, appropriately called "Dachsteinblick". Altaussee, the enchanting village with its numerous villas, invites you to take a break. Always in view of the Loser , the route continues slightly uphill to the Blaa-Alm, which delights every visitor, especially when the daffodils are in bloom. The cozy alpine hut is the perfect place to get some well-earned refreshments.

From the Blaa Alm we can continue on to Bad Ischl, where we continue along the gravel road. After a right-left combination, we descend into the Rettenbach valley.
Watch out for a steep step with coarse gravel! Please take the narrow Rettenbachtal valley with caution, there are blind bends and possibly oncoming traffic, as well as encounters with cars and little space to avoid them!

After the narrow valley and a dark tunnel, the land opens up and the Rettenbachalm lies ahead of us. Then it's just a quick ride out of the valley until we reach the imperial town of Bad Ischl.

To pay a visit to the spa town of Bad Aussee, we continue straight ahead on Radlingstraße (Alte Salzstraße), past the Calvary Church of St. Leonhard and down to the town center. The second option opens up at the entrance to Grundlsee, where we turn left and roll down the Traun to Bad Aussee.
