Viechtwang train station is a good starting point for the "Genuss am Almfuss" long-distance hiking trail. In the Gasthaus Schatzlmühle, which can be reached in just 5 minutes on foot, you could strengthen yourself before the hike.

On the way from Viechtwang to Grünau there are many cultural highlights to admire in addition to nature.
Follow the signs towards the sports field, where the Almuferweg offers a real attraction for children and young people. The active rest area in Scharnstein is certainly a highlight with its creative and challenging deep rope garden. There is also a modern toilet facility here. Then we continue upstream to the Almbrücke Scharnstein. There you change over a small footbridge to the other side of the river. This is where things get culturally interesting. Near the Gangljodl weir, the Forellenhof Wieselmühle, also a partner of Genuss am Almfluss, is a great place to stop off. There you can watch the traditional trout farming in the pond. At the E-Werk Redlmühle you can find out information about energy generation through hydropower on display boards. The fish can easily pass through the weir system through natural bypass channels and the system is guarded from a 300-year-old oak trunk sculpture "AlmaSulis - the power of water". Now it is not far to the center of Grünau. On this route you pass D`Einkehr, the inn on the Alm river, where there are delicacies from the region.
From there you can reach Grünau train station in about 10 minutes on foot. For the return journey to the starting point, the Almtalbahn runs almost every hour in the direction of Wels.

The tourist office is also located in the center of Grünau im Almtal. In the village you also have the opportunity to spend the night at the numerous partner companies on the Alm river, such as Alpenpension Birkenhof, Pension Kasbergblick, Urlaub Am LandwirtschaftsSportlerhof or in the Naturfreunde Hotel Wimmergreuth.

How to get to the Almtal (to Viechtwang or Grünau im Almtal):

We recommend that you travel by public transport!

by train:
From Wels train station, take the Almtalbahn (line 153) in the direction of Grünau im Almtal to the Viechtwang stop; return from Grünau im Almtal train station to Wels.
numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) to Linz/Vienna or Salzburg and to Passau (line 150)

by bus:
OÖVV bus route 533/534 Gmunden - Scharntein - Grünau im Almtal - Almsee; Viechtwang Museumstraße bus stop

with the Salzkammerut Shuttle Service Route 52 from Laakirchen to the Viechtwang/Almcamp Schatzlmühle station, or from Vorchdorf with the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service Route 70, please call the cab office at least 1 hour in advance on 050-422 422 and order.

Bike & Hike, arrival by bike:
Coming from Wels or Linz on the R 11 Almtalradweg via Pettenbach to Viechtwang. Or via the R 4 Traunradweg or R6 Römerradweg, or coming from Passau via Vöcklabruck and Schwanenstadt to Lambach, via the Traunkraftwerk Lambach and to Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting in the direction of Vorchdorf Einsiedling. Continue via the short cycle connection on the R 13 Traunviertlerradweg to the R 11 Almtalradweg via Pettenbach to Viechtwang.
Also the cycle connection on the Traunviertel Tour from Gmunden via St. Konrad and Scharnstein to Viechtwang.
