Description:
At leisurely pace you will discover lakes remained unaffected and cabins in one of the most beautiful mountain pastures of Europe. Starting your tour in the village Tauplitz you will reach the Tauplitzalm with the modern chairlift comfortable accompanying with an ineffably and unique view. Hike trails are well marked and signs will lead you throughout your path. Due to winters with a lot of snow in spring time the nature needs more time till the blossom starts. Therefore by end of July you might still be able to admire the colourful bloom of the lush alpine flora. All this aspects will contribute to an unforgetable experience.

Directions:
We start the tour directly from the top station of the chairlift at the Tauplitzalm. First the journey will take us westwards to the first lake, called "Krallersee", which is an obscure bog lake, where dragonflies, frogs and various other insects might be seen. Afterwards the path will guide us to the next lake, called "Großsee".

About 5 minutes walking distance to the north of our current position is another romantic lake called "Märchensee". Small streams flow smoothly through the weald and invite to a refreshment.

In an eastward direction we follow the route. Passing by the guesthouse "Naturfreundehaus" and one more beautiful lake called "Tauplitzsee" we reach a popular viewpoint which offer its visitor an amazing lookout to the surounding mountains and the scenic lake "Steirersee". This place is an area of outstanding beauty and one of these mountains had been ascended formerly by Heinrich Harrer.

Along the south bank of the lake we carry on our tour to the last lake on our trip, the "Schwarzensee". In the east of the lake there is a small hut and these one's, who are up for a refreshing bath, might take a swim in the crystal clear water. For our way back we can either choose the same route meeting halfway our starting point or we take the path over the south bank of the "Steirersee" and "Tauplitzsee" ending up at the starting and accordingly our final point of this admirable hiking tour.

Equipment:
Out on the alpine pastures and high peaks, the weather is infamous for changing quickly: Whether you are a laid-back “Sunday hiker” or an intrepid summiteer – you will get far more joy out of your outdoors experience if you are prepared for all potential conditions. That’s why we are taking this opportunity to share a few useful tips with you for your mountaineering expedition, hike or stroll in the hills.

Your most important companion up in the mountains is a good rucksack – a capacity of 20 liters is ideal, though bigger is not a bad idea for more extended tours. Your precise equipment needs will vary according to the tour and weather, a decision that’s ultimately up to you alone. But here’s one helpful rule of thumb to go by: Pack as much as necessary, but as little as possible!

  • Professional hiking boots that have been worn in.

  • Special hiking socks for good traction inside your boots.

  • Hiking pants – zip-off legs are great for adjusting to changing temperatures.

  • A change of functional shirts – especially on the summit or after a strenuous stage.

  • Breathable rain jacket within easy reach (packed in the side or top).

  • Rain wrap for your rucksack, also quick and easy to access.

  • A warm sweater and/or warm jacket if temperatures change drastically.

  • Cap and gloves – even in summer, in the mountains it can quickly turn cold.

  • Sun protection: cap and sun block with high SPF.· Hiking or trekking poles if appropriate to your tour.

  • 1-2 sandwiches, an energy snack such as a cereal bar won’t hurt either.

  • Drinks bottle with at least 1.5 liters of water, tea or energy drink.

  • Professional hiking map of the area.

  • Mobile phone that is fully charged.

  • First-aid kit and band-aids for blisters.

  • Cash and a pocket knife.· Cushion to sit on and enjoy the views in comfort.

We wish you a wonderful time hiking or mountaineering on the Tauplitz!
