Yet Gosau am Dachstein doesn’t resemble a typical village at all, as the valley stretches for over 14 kilometers all the way to the Gosau Lakes, where you can gaze out at the Dachstein Glacier. In both winter and summer, you can quickly reach the crisp mountain air or one of the many alpine pastures. In the valley itself, charming houses and restaurants are scattered about, with plenty of space, open areas, and fresh air everywhere for relaxation and outdoor activities. [**Learn more about Gosau and why it’s worth spending your vacation here.**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/informieren/unser-welterbe/artikel/detail/8623/urlaub-gosau-am-dachstein.html) **The Dachstein West Ski Area** ------------------------------- What proves to be a wonderful hiking paradise in summer is one of [**Upper Austria’s largest ski resorts**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430000469/skiregion-dachstein-west-gosau-russbach-annaberg.html) in winter [**—Dachstein West**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430000469/skiregion-dachstein-west-gosau-russbach-annaberg.html). The Dachstein West ski region includes the three towns of Gosau am Dachstein, Russbach, and Annaberg. The Gosau section of the Dachstein West ski region includes the Hornspitz—along with Fredyland—and the slightly more challenging Zwieselalm. With **160 kilometers of beautifully groomed slopes**, there’s something for everyone. For **families with children**, the Dachstein West ski area has long been one of **the best places in the Alps**. The magic carpet, Fredyland, and those first turns put smiles on the kids’ faces, while parents enjoy relaxed hours carving the slopes and stopping for refreshments. **Fun & Romance in the Snow** --------------------------------- But Gosau offers more than just unique fun on the slopes; other winter sports activities—such as **cross-country skiing** (60 kilometers of trails), **sledding**, **snowshoeing**, **ski touring**, or **leisurely winter hikes** —are also very popular and well-received. You can [**experience Gosau**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430014579/pferdeschlittenfahrt-in-gosau.html) in a very special way [**by horse-drawn sleigh**](https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich-poi/detail/430014579/pferdeschlittenfahrt-in-gosau.html). Wrapped in warm blankets, you’ll be pulled along on the sleigh by two snorting horses through the dreamlike, snow-covered winter landscape. A horse-drawn sleigh ride through Gosau is simply unbeatably beautiful and romantic. Time seems to stand still as you glide beneath the clear sky along the Gosaubach stream, hearing nothing but the crunch of the snow and the jingling of the horses’ bells. **Our Gosau tip:** A romantic stroll along the Gosaubach stream offers you incomparably beautiful views of the Gosaukamm and the surrounding mountains.
