In the tourism regions of Traunsee-Almtal, Bad Ischl, Inner Salzkammergut, Fuschlsee, Attersee-Attergau, Mondsee-Irrsee, and Wolfgangsee, sporting challenges meet breathtaking landscapes—embedded in a rich cultural-tourism experience. Cycling in the Salzkammergut is more than transportation - it’s a way to connect with the region, its landscapes, and its people. Over 1,000 kilometers of signposted cycling routes, increasing overnight stays by cycling tourists, and new offerings across all disciplines demonstrate that the Salzkammergut is perfectly in tune with current trends. **Between Lakes and Mountain Passes: Road & Gravel Cycling on scenic routes** Road cyclists will find a dense network of low-traffic roads, challenging climbs, and spectacular views. A classic route is the circuit around the Attersee, featuring direct lake views during the annual car-free cycling day. For those seeking more elevation, routes in the Almtal hills or Mondsee region offer additional challenges. Gravel bikers can explore old tracks, forest roads, and connecting paths between Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee, ideal for adventurous rides on gravel. **Mountain Biking & E-MTB: The heart beats in Inner Salzkammergut** The MTB tourism sector has pioneered trails in the Inner Salzkammergut. Routes like the Salzberg Trail, the Gosausee Loop, and the internationally renowned Salzkammergut Trophy have put the region on the global map. E-mountain bikers benefit from new charging stations, dedicated e-bike routes, and a growing rental network—from Feuerkogel to Gosau at the Dachstein. **Downhill & Technical Trails: Traunsee-Almtal gets active** For adrenaline seekers, the bike park at Feuerkogel or Grünberg near Gmunden offers flow trails, jump lines, and training opportunities for children and beginners—a well-rounded experience. The Almtal region also provides technical challenges in a natural setting. **St. Wolfgang & Bad Ischl: Cycling with cultural depth** Between the Schafberg and Kaiservilla, Bad Ischl and St. Wolfgang offer a unique combination of cycling and culture. The “3 Lakes Tour” from St. Wolfgang via Attersee to Mondsee, segments of the Salzkammergut Cycle Path, and the historic Ischlerbahnstraße make the area especially attractive for recreational cyclists. *"The Salzkammergut is a cycling destination for all skill levels—from sporty to leisurely. At the same time, our local businesses benefit year-round from the growing demand in cycle tourism,"* says Michael Spechtenhauser, Managing Director of Salzkammergut Tourismus-Marketing GmbH. **Numbers confirm the trend** Cycling tourists stay longer and spend more than day visitors. Preliminary forecasts suggest that in 2024 the Salzkammergut could exceed 6 million overnight stays for the first time—with cycling and culture as key attractions.
